A family wants answers about what happened to their son that left him hospitalized. Early Saturday morning, police found Mace Hutchinson, 16, underneath the Highway F overpass over U.S. 65.
Mace ended up in intensive care at a hospital. His parents believe the actions of Ozark police officers contributed to his injuries and slowed doctors' abilities to speed his recovery.
"We called the police. My wife was afraid he was going to get ran over or hit," said witness Doug Messersmith.
Messersmith and his wife were the last known people to see 16-year-old boy walking, shortly before their phone call to 911.
"He looked a little agitated but, other than that, he didn't look to be falling down drunk or anything like that," he said.
By the time officers arrived, the teen was off the 30-foot overpass, lying on the shoulder below along U.S. 65, with no good explanation as to how he got there.
"According to the doctors, all injuries are consistent with a fall," said his aunt, Samantha.
Poor kid having to deal with injuries from a nasty fall and getting tasered, sounds like he went thru alot, I can understand the parents looking for some more details on this one.
Since we don't know the facts and the story can't really enlighten it's hard to say what happened. It's suspicious all right. The police do have far too much power.
There are still alot of open issues your right. It just does not sound right from what little is reported
I'm disappointed by the sketchy facts in this article. After reading it I get the feeling that some parts were left out. Like, why the police stopped him. Why he was walking along the interstate it the first place. Why he was tasered 19 times...
By the way, this is my local news station - sounds like the taser is hitting close to home.
By the way, this is my local news station - sounds like the taser is hitting close to home.
If something is not done, it's going to hit EVERYONE closer than they would like.
Yikes I can see why it would hit home if this is local. It is also the 313th seed I have had about Taser attacks...
The article is lacking alot of detail and it sounds like so are the police. I found the last paragraph very interesting in the article.
The family, along with the Ozark Police Department, hopes someone will see this report and come forward with some information. You can call (417) 699-4789 with information or call the Ozark Police Department.
I am hoping to find out some more information on this kid, he does not look so great. My prayers ware with him. Getting tased 19 times has got to be very tough on a person, I am surprised he is alive.
This is the latest update on Mace
Injured teen sees no reason police used stun gun 19 times on him
I don't believe for a second that hes was saying that crap to the cops, my guess is they made it up to cover for what they did. For goodness sake, the poor boy had a broken back!
Hard to believe what they did to him, it was totally unneeded.
Tedd, have you ever explained your fascination with tazer gun news? If not I'd love to read about it sometime.
Digits started the group actually. Every one dropped out except for Wheel and myself. I am an electrical engineer and I have designed ECG equipment so I very well aware of the actions of Electrical impulses in the heart and also since I have a history of seizures, which is another electrical impulse that can be triggered by a Taser, this is of huge concern to me as a person with seizure disorder will in most cases go into a full seizure if a taser is used.
"a person with seizure disorder will in most cases go into a full seizure if a taser is used. "
god help you if the police are around and you have a seizure, Tedd.
Ire,
I know....Believe me that is a concern of mine, hopefully that would not happen as I have not had one for several years and take seizure meds, but people don't react so well it someone it having a seizure and a police with a taser might think I am trying to attack him and that would be the last thing I needed. Those nasty car wreaks have a way of messing up your life just a bit...
Tedd, Thanks for explaining. Hope you didn't mind.
Scott, you did not ask me but I would like to explain my fascination too. :)
I have been an advocate of disenfranchised citizens [homeless, minorities, the poor], animals, children, the elderly, the emotionally and mentally challenged, as well as any other member of society usually not afforded the same respect as "mainstream" people.
As taser use has risen, more and more mainstream people [ie, "normies"] have become discounted with respect to their truth, with respect to anyone listening to their version, and with respect to financial or emotional remedy. What has made this even worse, in my opinion, are that many of the "still mainstream" people are ever-widening their association with tasering as an epidemic. [ie, "Well, he should have listened!" or "Well. You don't listen to a cop so you go down!" or "At least he did not shoot you!"]
What is happening is a brainwashing. The more people who find this casual tasering as okey-dokie the more room the government has to go against the Constitution and take away even more rights. As long as people find this acceptable, the police will continue their encroachment into - not just the grey areas of "rights" - but in the clear/cut cases. [As in this story.]
Like Tedd, I too have a disability that could kill me if I got tasered. And because I am an advocate championing for the rights of people, I would be the sort of person who would get tasered because I believe fully in using my mouth to speak.
And passive resistance or speaking should NEVER be cause for tasering. NEVER.
Not to mention, I have known my share of dirty cops or people within the police force. I know how they can lie and abuse citizens even without using a taser. I know how they are capable of lying on the stand in court and I know how they take advantage of "small town politics." I know how they protect their own and I know how well they can twist innocent words of truth. I do not know this from television but because I used to work closely with them.
And that's my story and I am sticking to it. :)
Not to mention, I have known my share of dirty cops or people within the police force
ah...yeah....I could go into volumes of detail on that one and will after the lawsuit is finished....
"He refused to comply with the officers and so the officers had to deploy their Tasers in order to subdue him. He is making incoherent statements; he's also making statements such as, 'Shoot cops, kill cops,' things like that. So there was cause for concern to the officers," said Ozark Police Capt. Thomas Rousset.
Typical of what police say in this circumstance, as we're all too well aware. He had a broken back and the police found him such a threat they had to tase him. Cops are something aren't they?
Next thing they will do is charge him with resisting arrest and/or assault on a officer.
Yeah this is disgusting what they did to the poor kid. With a broken neck, he probably was delirious.
Another maddening episode of a citizen being victimized by police brutality.
Cops are something aren't they?
Some cops should be in prison.
Next thing they will do is charge him with resisting arrest and/or assault on a officer.
I would expect nothing less.
Wow! I hope the police are called into account for what happened.
I sure hope so, they need to provide some answers on this one.
C&P of email sent to KY3 reporter, Sara Sheffield:
Dear Ms. Sheffield,
A seed of your report on Mace Hutchinson is currently under discussion on Newsvine, a subsidiary of MSNBC. Thank you for covering this story. The rise in reports of taser use is of great concern to many US citizens well beyond the Newsvine community. So far, your article has been clipped to two Newsvine groups: To MSNBC and TaserWatch.
The general consensus at present is that there remain unanswered questions regarding the Ozark officer's use of a taser on an injured minor child. It is no one's desire amongst the established Newsvine membership to vilify any principle figures involved, however comprehensive followup on this matter seems appropriate. Those of us who are now watching this story would certainly appreciate it.
Ms. Sheffield, thanks again. The Newsvine seed and discussion can be accessed via the following Newsvine tag:
Tedd, thanks for seeding this article.
Elizabeth, per article request for public leads, it's clipped to the Ozarks group.
Thanks for doing that fugi, I usually do that whenever I seed an article, this one I did at the last min and did not get to it yet, so I appreciate that !
Sis - You are bomb!
Thats my fugi angel, she is awesome :-)
AGREED.
{{{Digits}}} Been missing you something fierce, Sis! Hope all is well down south.
Sis - You are bomb!
It takes one to know one, darlin'! ♥
{{{Tedd}}} You are such a flirtatious, mischievous rascal! Don't you dare change. **giggling**
Some of us get rather set in our ways dear ♥
Well, here we are on a very serious note!
I think the problem is some people can not cope with power. It goes to their heads and they get out of control. Cops are in a position of power and some probably just shouldn't be.
What is the saying, "Absolute power corrupts absolutely" or something like that.
Something like that..But many new cops are coming in the ranks and the taser is replacing talking to people and that is a huge mistake.
And to be exact...
Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men
His aunt says he is undergoing major surgery for a broken back and broken heel. While he was lying on the ground, she wonders why Ozark police used an electric stun gun on him up to 19 times.
"I'm not an officer, but i don't see the reason for 'Tasering' somebody laying there with a broken back. I don't consider that a threat,"
His dad says the use of the stun gun delayed what would have been immediate surgery by two days.
"The 'Tasering' increased his white blood cell count and caused him to have a temperature so they could not go into the operation."
Watch this.
WORDS are now a "cause for concern" for officers. And did you catch how he "would not comply?" What? Like the paralyzed man "would not comply" and so the female officer just dumped him out from his chair? They got annoyed that with his broken back he would not stand up?
Alright. Let me breathe. Deep breath in....1.....2......3........4...........5.
So he's [allegedly] fallen. Has a broken back and is lying there. He's [alledgedly] mumbling, "Shoot cops, kill cops" and things like that so the cops taser him 19 times. Make sense?
That's right.
IT DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE!
Are we sure the cops did not taser him INTO falling? This is the most suspicious taser story I have ever read.
I cannot wait for Mace to wake up and tell his version.
Can someone please clip this to Police Brutality? I can't cause I am on IE and the drop down isn't allowing me to scroll that far.
Digit, Done...
{{ Thanks RL. }}
...clear case of brutality...heinous...disgusting...barbaric...grumble...grumble....
I can't cause I am on IE and the drop down
Hey Digits,
If that happens, just use the down key, not the mouse side bar and it will work.
If that happens, just use the down key, not the mouse side bar and it will work.
Thanks. Gotchya!
This is a pivotal event here in the US in regards to police brutality and torture. I know that the story is incomplete but what is known is damming. Rather than rehashing what we know I wanted to point out an observation from the video of the overpass. Who noticed that that overpass of a highway has no guard rails at all? It would be so easy to take a header off that with or without an assist. That leads to some speculation about this. The video shows the first witnesses and they insisted that they were worried for Mace. What if they hit Mace and rather than running called 9-11 to partly do the right thing? Only some speculation on my part about the murky part of this mess. They might have hit him just enough to push him off the edge. That aside how is a kid with a mangled foot going to be able to "dart" into traffic??
I think it is time for the people to unite and reestablish our suffering Constitutional government and fast!
That was well said. I appreciate that AlphaOmega.
This evening I will post my current thoughts on this situation and they are bound to be voluminous. For the moment I was wondering what the current situation is regarding Mace? What is the update or where is the central place to locate updates? Has Mace said anything?
Both Digits and I are keeping track of what is happening with Mace, I have a Google Alert set for him, we also have a group called Taser-Watch that we post anything new that comes up, so here is as good as any as both of us check here if you want as we both take Taser abuse very seriously.
I check KY3.com regularly since I live in the viewing area. There was an update posted on July 28th, but it was so insignificant that it wasn't worth mentioning. Wait for the next alleged update, if there's one to be had. It will probably read something like "Housefly farts in Mace's room."
/me rolls eyes...
great....up to date exciting new....
What's not to like about Tazers? They offer a flexible, inexpensive, less than lethal alternative to subdue an individual that needs subduing. If I had a choice of poison if I were going down I would rather get Tazed than filled with lead. So, what seems to be the problem here? Why do so many want Tazers removed from the option bag of the Man? We all know that the damage from being hit over the head with a club could lead to cranial retention leakage.
It seems that the problem is larger than the bag of tools given to the police by the tax payers. More and more the police expand the limits of acceptable behavior in their sphere of influence. I don't believe that when older people tell younger people, "that things used to be different back in the day" that their memory is up to snuff. They mean well but the only real difference between today and the olden days are all of the neat toys made of oil and plastic.
Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Add to that sophisticated tactics and equipment and the tax payer amounts to nothing more than a host for the parasites that have infested our government. Here I'm talking about the bigger, deeper problem that limits our existence to that of slaves. Our enemy is good old groupthink that has been embedded deeply into the warrior classes. The police used to be known as police officers but now every time they catch a call someone gets cuffed or worse.
Keeping the peace has been replaced with a new mission to change the nation like a chisel to stone. The carver is going to lop off rough sections using heavy blows. We must wonder why this is happening and that keeps us busy for years. It seems that the tax payers have the job of doing what we are told otherwise we get Tazed or worse. Listen now as the police tell you what they want you to do.
They want you to go to work and the more often the better so you can pay them. They want to set the driving rules up as difficultly as possible tempting you with a fast car hindered by a 25 MPH zone so they can squeeze out more of your money to nothing more than a "Boss Hogg" in any town. They want you to drive drunk so they can get you into the system and bleed you and your family for years. They want you to fear them so you will not even think about fighting back as they fleece you for your property. In the end after you have been milked for all of your value they will kill you. That is what they are all about.
For every young boy there are usually a few small creatures that he meets along the way like a toad or frog, maybe a bird or cat and this boy gets hold of the animal and tortures it till it dies. The animal suffers a horrific death that can take even days. Most boys that do this never do it again because they develop a health sense of guilt and regret. The ones that don't manage to grow from this can perpetuate and even intensify the desire to squeeze the life out of anything and anyone. I enjoy hunting and eating meat but I do my best to end it quickly and there is no waste since I must eat too. Others simply enjoy inflicting pain.
Our government has decided that water boarding prisoners is "Just Peachy." Imagine that, they changed the name of "Suffocation" to the thing you get strapped to. This in a way sounds less sinister than, "Let's choke Habbibe and see how close to the edge we can take him!" As long as the government supplies the dirty missions numerous freaks of nature will crawl from the darkest of cracks to carry them out. They together compose the group known as THEM! To THEM we are THEM and to ourselves we are US but in reality it has always been between US and THEM.
At the moment WE are weak, the government keeps us turning the wheel as we get fleeced and become divided from our fellow citizens. They love the Tazer since they can use it with complete impunity as a tool of torture or as intended rather than a bullet. The slave learns his place in the order of nature and he can be squeezed even harder by the conditioning of fear and pain. I doubt that our solution lies in a petition or election. Those that would pull the legs of a frog and then set it free do not understand civil gestures.
The colonists cast the first votes in lead and the British returned the vote in lead. This went on for years but the final vote was won by the colonists. Here I am not inciting a riot but suggesting that we had better fight back pretty soon. When you allow a bully to push you around he will rule you and take pounds of flesh. When you fight back you can die but at least you don't have to be a slave. You can also WIN and knock the bully down. Public servants exist because we pay them and they work for us. They need to fear us to some degree otherwise they dominate every one of us eventually.
People need to assemble in loosely knit groups consisting of 5 to 10 individuals to develop what the police would call UNITS. These units must be willing to stand to power and oppose any and all brutality. If a stranger was beating your best friend you would get his back and so it should be when the police are beating you down. Hundreds of people are standing around, while the police tackle a boy riding a bike and then drag him away. Where is the confrontation, the protest, the riot, the unity? Fear is locking you out of doing the right thing.
If a man was raping a woman you would defend her through physicality and if needed deep sacrifice. If a cop was doing the raping would you still make the needed sacrifice or would your yellow streak grow wider like the gap between THEM and US? Our UNITS must meet and support other UNITS so that our sheer numbers can grow but there are no real leaders that can allow for an easy way to bring everyone down. While we are busy planning protests, signing petitions and keeping our heads above water we must also develop a plan for the future.
What's not to like about Tazers? They offer a flexible, inexpensive, less than lethal alternative to subdue
Very Clearly....You have not looked at too much of what the background is. If these devices are so "less then lethal" then why do we have over 400 dead people from tasers ?
Why is the Canadian Government banning the use of Tasers in almost every province ?
Sorry, maybe I am missing something here...
Well to me the issue is not that a thing or device is the issue but in fact the problem are the violent, cruel, sadistic cops who wield them. It is "Police Brutality and Torture" that can be conducted with any device. Now if I were to stand you against a wall and shoot you with a 10mm or a Tazer I would like to think you would take your chances with the Tazer. Now regarding what happened to Mace we see what looks like police brutality and torture and maybe attempted murder? I don't know if you have ever been shot by a gun but Mace shot by 19 bullets would not have lived. We have police that are willing to torture citizens and they need to face the scales of justice. If you should manage to get the Tazers they will revert back to beatings, rubber bullets, clubs and lead. Now as far as my comment that was sarcasm. I imagine that there is a lot to like about Tazers if you are the one holding it. The Canadian cops will move back to pepper spray, clubs, rubber bullets, saps, shot gloves, brass knuckles and guns. What has to happen is that cops who break the law must be punished more severely than the rest. They are feared and that needs to change too. I agree that till that day their bag of tricks and toys needs to be taken away.
OK. now I understand...I have a update on Mace if your curious, he is home now and not a real happy kid either...
I have Seizure Disorder, so for me, a taser would most likely be fatal...so its a scary thought to be honest..
I wish cops could learn to talk to people again !
here is the update on Mace
Injured teen sees no reason police used stun gun 19 times on him
Tedd,
The main thing is that he is home and on the mend. Do you think you can interview him on the phone and ask him for details? Did a car hit him? Was he in a fight and if so with who? None of that matters when it comes to the police brutality unless it was the police that threw him off there. Maybe we can find out if he intends to file a case? If he does not then why not?
My wife and I were up all night talking about this and are quite upset. I have played this out numerous ways under many conditions in my mind and can not come up with one single reason that a Tazer could be needed. They claimed they were protecting him from crawling out into traffic or DARTING into traffic. If there was a car accident the police would park a car between the accident and oncoming traffic. This would be the same and if they were worried they would do just that and render first aid.
The police would cover him with a blanket, after assessing injuries and if there was bleeding they would apply pressure. General standard stuff at the most basic level that any cop or citizen would do. I think of a Tazer as a plastic gun and I can think of no event that necessitates the use of a gun as a method for treating injuries. If he was moving that might not have been good and he could have severed his spinal cord. If any spinal or head injury is suspected you get strapped to a board. EMS generally brings that but what I have done and what I have seen done was to immobilize the victim with blankets and if necessary by holding their arms and or legs. Talking to them in a caring way lets them know that they are not alone even if they are in shock.
I'm sorry but if none of that was done then the police were at a minimum negligent. Since they rode him with 2 or 3 Tazer guns that leaps directly past negligent to the world of assault and battery along with attempted murder. I start to wonder if the EMS showed up too soon and prevented them from finishing him off? Good lord this wreaks so much. We really need to hear from Mace!
Thats the whole thing, How or why did he land up 30 ft under that bridge in the first place ? Did a hit and run car hit him ? Attempted Suicide ? Did he just trip ? Did he attempt to play "Superman" ?
The reports say the police "found him", hopefully they did not also help him get there.
They seemed to use the taser to quit him down because he was yelling "Shoot cops" well maybe the poor kid had mental problems, maybe in shock (most likely) after breaking his back and the last thing he needs is more stimulation, (ie a Taser) which always increases Heart Rate, Blood Pressure. The Kid needed a warm blanket and some help.
But 19 Taser shots ? That fact that Case is not in a Coma, or Dead is a surprise, an older person, or a frail person, could not survive that. I wonder how many billions of brain cells he lost in that one ?
I would love to talk to Case. I have attempted to contact the paper and his family and see what happens.
I have no idea how to get a picture to show on here? That being said the is a picture of Mace laying on a futon or couch at home. This is in no way an attack on Mace on my part with the following statement. Till I saw that picture I didn't realize what a scrawny kid Mace is. His arms are not developed and is generally a skinny kid. Now there is nothing the police can say that I will ever entertain as truth. The whole thing is an obscene lie to cover the police with a policy. That entire police department needs to be shut. I believe that rather then calling them we citizens need to contact State and Federal prosecutors and confront them with this horrid tale. There is no way that this can be allowed to stand and I for one have no intention of letting this matter go. My wife and I are naturally upset and will be sending messages, letters and making phone calls starting first thing Monday morning to government officials in our State and in Mace's State. An investigation of the entire Ozark PD must be conducted by the State of MO and possibly the FBI. There in no way that this is going to stand! Rodney King was involved in a high speed chase with shooting of tires and then a full blown beating and that resulted in a riot. This mere skinny boy with serious injuries is not charged with any crime, never attempted to flee and was BRUTALIZED. Where is the riot or outrage for Mace's sadistic captors treatment of him? This is pivotal and urgent and as soon as my wife finishes here messages I will put together a list of phone numbers, addresses and E mails so that at a minimum we citizens that can also be treated like Mace can take direct and indirect action so that corrupted local police departments like that of Ozark, MO can be taken off-line.
I will copy this and post it in the other article too.
We don't have a way of posting a picture directly on here. Thanks for looking into this.
Go here for a better report on this subject.

Go where Jane ?
Because of this case the Ozark police now have Taser cameras. Too bad they didn't have it before...
